This report provides the first comprehensive analysis of Pacific Russia's economic potential and its implications for Australia. Drawing on the experience of Australian companies operating in the region, the report reveals that despite political and economic uncertainties and a difficult business environment, Pacific Russia may offer lucrative trade and investment opportunities for Australian business in processed foods, minerals and energy exploration, and transport infrastructure. This report also canvasses the economic and trade challenges posed by the future development of Pacific Russia's resource base. If Pacific Russia's long term capacity as an energy exporter is realised, it could displace some of Australia's commodity exports to key north east Asian markets - China, Japan and the Republic of Korea. |
