| Shrnutí: | In recognition of the importance of the science, engineering and technology (SET) base to Australia's future, the Minister for Industry, Science and Resources, Senator the Hon Nick Minchin, has asked the Chief Scientist to assess its capabilities to ensure it can meet the needs of Australians in the 2 1st Century. The Australian Science Capability Review commenced in September last year. The Chief Scientist started by inviting submissions from the community to comment on Australia's SET capability. The were very pleased to receive a large number of submissions to the Review which commended the high quality of research performance in Australia. They became concerned, however, at a large body of submissions which brought to thier attention some of the issues which the community felt were hindering the realisation of Australia's full potential. |
