It begins with a qualitative overview of the entire area of chemical analysis, as it relates to the determinants of accelerants in fire debris, then introduces basic cheimstry, instrumentation and the applicaiton of scientific disiplines. Gas chromatography is explained in technical detail in an effort to bridge the gap between layperson and expert. Practical aspects of accelerant analysis are emphasised and illustrated with examples.
