Summary:Individuals with disabilities have unique problems. Adjusting to post-high school life can be especially difficult for individuals with disabilities who are expected to find and maintain employment, live on their own, and function successfully in their communities. This book argues that the area of special education - namely, pre-service and in-service teachers, counselors, and psychologists - can better prepare individuals with disabilities in making a successful transition from school to work and community living. Transition: Facilitating the Postschool Adjustment of Individuals with Disabilities can be used as a supplemental undergraduate or graduate textbook for those studying education, vocational education, special education, counseling, educational/school psychology, or vocational rehabilitation. It also serves as a professional reference volume for educators, counselors, and psychologists involved in developing or implementing transition programs.
Edward M. Levinson is professor of educational and school psychology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
